Aggressive Deaf Aussie

(Ofallon, MO)

My sons australian shepherd (a rescue adopted at 12 weeks) is a double merle and blind in one eye and deaf. He is a great dog, and as he was a puppy and growing up my son made sure to handle his dog food around him even by placing his hand in the bowl while Frodo was eating. He has to be fed in his crate now he is 4 yrs old. He suddenly decided one day as my son put his food bowl down, Frodo attacked him. He has come out of his crate and attacked my golden and his food was all gone.

Normally if my son is sitting on his bed watching tv and eating Frodo can be laying beside him. Today my son had a bowl with fritos in it. He sat down and with his other hand was petting Frodo and talking to him. Then suddenly Frodo went after him biting his finger and biting his leg.

We dont know what to do about this. Any suggestions?

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
