Agressive Border Collie

by Julie
(Amarillo, TX)

This puppy was left at a local place here in town, not a shelter. My grandson wanted him so we took him in. He did ok for a while but never liked strange people around. I am perplexed because he is so very sweet with us. He has gotten out a few times and is very aggressive to people or other dogs. He has bitten twice, not badly but still. I don't know why this is happening or how to stop it. My grandson has friends over all the time and he is fine with them. He does a lot of barking, especially at night. I hate to have him put down because we love him. I don't have the funds to send him to training and will it fix him?

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
