dog-dog, dog-human, territorial aggressive American Foxhound

Rescue dog, American Foxhound w/boxer mix (DNA test by vet), sometimes growls at other dogs wanting to attack, growls sometimes at humans even while on leash. Recently charged and cornered a woman, barking and growling while off leash. A few days later while on leash, the dog nipped at a woman standing there talking to my wife who was holding the dog. Did not break skin but bruised leg. Not the first time dog nipped at someone. Dog is protective of us and our property. What are our options, or should we have the dog put down?

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
